Sakurai and Bowser teased that more info on the next DLC fighter was days away.
During the Nintendo 2019 World Championship Tournament today, Nintendo confirmed that the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be revealed during its E3 Nintendo Direct on June 11.
After the tournament, Smash Bros. Game Director Masahiro Sakurai teased the audience in a pre-recorded message by saying “I’ll be continuing my work on the next DLC fighter and more information regarding that will be shared in the Nintendo Direct for E3 2019 so I hope you’re looking forward to it.”
While that’s not explicit confirmation of a reveal, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser then doubled down on Sakurai’s statement by saying “I think many of you are going to want to tune in next week to see what or who he may be talking about,” more directly affirming that they mean a reveal is just days away.
With the release of Joker earlier this year, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is expected to get four more DLC characters. Rumors and alleged leaks have been swirling nonstop, the most prevalent of which is Erdrick from Dragon Quest. We even put together our own list of DLC Smash Bros. characters we’d like to see.
