Immortals of Aveum, EA’s upcoming magic FPS, is being delayed to “add more PC functionality” among other updates.

Originally slated to release in July, Immortals has been pushed back about a month to August 22. This follows what Ascendant Studios calling “inspiring” reactions at PlayStation Showcase and Summer Games Fest.

“As you know, this is our first game as a self-funded independent studio,” the studio wrote in a blog post. “We set out five years ago to ambitiously make an original Magic FPS in a new fantasy world. Along the way, we worked through a pandemic, built a new team, developed on Unreal Engine 5.1 and pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible. Now, the finish line is in sight.”

Ascendant Studios says that the delay is in reaction to feedback from the recent previews, which is being undertaken in order to “realize our full vision.”

“This will give us time to further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right,” the studio wrote.

We compared Immortals of Aveum to Heretic and Hexen in our May preview, thought it’s a “spiritual connection at best.” It’s also notable for being one of the first Unreal Engine 5 games to arrive on the market.

“I’m not optimistic that the full context of Jak’s story will make his or anyone else’s dialogue in this game any more bearable when I get my hands on the full version, but I’m quite confident that the magic-fueled combat will keep me hooked until the end,” IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey wrote.

We’ll be able to see for ourselves when Immortals of Aveum arrives August 22 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
