And yes, he’s working on a Spider-Man PS4 mod next.

It can be tough enough for some of us to win in Respawn Entertainment’s hit battle royale shooter Apex Legends. But one player has decided to take a unique tactic to playing the legend Pathfinder — using a modified Spider-Man web shooter toy as a controller.

Louis Hamilton, ATwerkinYoshi on Reddit, posted his awesome controller mod, which activates Pathfinder’s grappling hook ability with the press of a Spider-Man glove. Mimicking the webhead’s iconic motion, Hamilton presses down with his middle and ring finger on a modded web shooter glove, which launches Pathfinder’s grapple. Check out the video below to see the glove in action.

Speaking to IGN via Reddit, Hamilton explained the testing process to get the controller working right.

“The hard part was understanding the gyroscope’s output and mapping it to mouse movement,” he said. “Luckily once I figured it out, I don’t have to worry about it in the future. I think I had the same amount of trouble trying to figure out how to attach the web-shooter to the glove.”

Hamilton, who has a background in programming and in the gaming industry, said the act of actually playing with the glove “works really well.”

“It’s a really fun novelty feeling like a Spider-Man for a couple of hours,” he said. “…I feel like the glove works really well in matches. I’m [a] bit bias to playing games with weird controllers but with enough practice, you can get your aim to a good state to play matches seriously.”

And you may be familiar with Hamilton’s previous history with fun controller mods, as he noted his past work on unique control schemes for Dark Souls and Overwatch, and you may remember his work in particular on the former.

“One of my favorite controllers was making a Doomfist Boxing Glove controller which used parts from a Wii-mote to play Doomfist,” Hamilton told IGN. “I mapped motions like punching, upper cuts, and slamming to match Doomfist abilities.

“And for something more on the weird side, I made a banana controller to beat games like Dark Souls and modded Kinects to play Smash Bros. I have a history of playing games wrong.”

He’s also working on a Nerf shield and gun combo for Apex Legends, a Cappy hat for Super Mario Odyssey, and he’s a third of the way done with a Master Sword mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And yes, naturally, he has more ideas for this particular controller.

“However now that I have my Spider-Man gloves working, I’m in the mood to use it for something more appropriate like PS4’s Spider-Man!”

You can find more of Hamilton’s work on his Twitter and YouTube profiles.
