The developers of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 have had a bit of fun with cheaters who are being naughty in Multiplayer.

Cheaters found a way to use the Zombies Ray Gun in standard Multiplayer matches after the iconic weapon was added in Season 1 for the new, limited-time Vortex game mode — clearly unintended gameplay that resulted in some overpowered shenanigans.

Here’s how the Ray Gun looks in Multiplayer:

In response, the developers turned the Ray Gun on the cheaters, making it so it causes damage to whoever wields it rather than does damage to enemies. According to a post on X/Twitter from the COD Updates account: “Players illicitly accessing the Ray Gun in Multiplayer will now inflict self-damage upon use.”

It’s a fun temporary solve while the developers work to block the gun’s access in Multiplayer, and it’s gone down well with fans. But the appearance of a Zombies gun in Multiplayer is yet another concerning cheat in a game that experts warned would suffer from hacking problems.

Modern Warfare 3’s Season 1 is currently in full swing. The Season 1 patch notes made big changes to the game, which players are getting to grips with. Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 Reloaded is expected to kick off at some point in January.
