Antony Starr, who plays Homelander in Amazon Prime show The Boys, has said he is not voicing the famous supervillain in fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, much to the disappointment of fans.

Instagram user @vaguelyokay asked Starr: “Are you voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1?” And Starr’s response was crystal clear: “Nope.”

The news comes as a surprise given Mortal Kombat 1 developer NetherRealm has secured Starr’s likeness for Homelander, who is set to hit the game as part of Kombat Pack 1. NetherRealm did get Invincible actor JK Simmons’ voice and likeness for the recently released Omni-Man character. And NetherRealm chief Ed Boon has confirmed in interviews that actor John Cena provided voice work for Peacemaker, who is also an upcoming DLC character.

You can see all three DLC characters in the video below:

In previous Mortal Kombat games, Sylvester Stallone (Rambo), Peter Weller (RoboCop) and Keith David (Spawn) all voiced their respective characters. However, NetherRealm employed the services of an Arnold Schwarzenegger sound-alike for the Terminator, despite securing Arnie’s likeness.

IGN has asked Warner Bros. Games for comment.

For now, Omni-Man is going down well with players, although other aspects of Mortal Kombat 1 have caused controversy, chief among them the sale of Fatalities for real-world money. Warner Bros. has said Mortal Kombat 1 has sold over three million copies since it went on sale, although sales of the game appear to be down compared to its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11, across Europe.
