WWE’s The Miz has commented on how he tried very hard to get cast as Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie, and how he is ultimately happy to see Karl Urban play the role.

Speaking to ComicBook, Miz said he really liked the latest Mortal Kombat reboot, but felt it was missing something–Johnny Cage. He lobbied hard to play Cage in the sequel, and fans wanted to see that happen as well, as evidenced by The Miz’s name trending on Twitter for a period of time.

Unfortunately for him, he never even got an audition. But Miz said that’s fine, and he understands that the studio maybe just didn’t see what he saw.

When The Lord of the Rings and The Boys actor Karl Urban landed the role, people asked Miz if he was upset, but he wasn’t.

“It’s like, I never get mad or angry when someone else gets a part that I want,” he said, adding that Urban is terrific actor who he believes will do an amazing job as Cage.

“Am I heartbroken that I’m not going to be Johnny Cage? Yes, of course. But that’s the story of life. You literally take your bumps and bruises. I mean, this is Hollywood,” he said.

Hollywood writers and actors are now on striking, seeking better wages and further workplace protections, and that means production on Mortal Kombat 2 is now shut down. Like the original, Mortal Kombat 2 was filming in Australia prior to the shutdown.

As for the Mortal Kombat game series, the next entry in the series, Mortal Kombat 1, releases in September for console and PC.
