A few days ago the team at Columbia Sportswear graciously sent along one of their new Star Wars Dark Side Challenger Jackets to my home for review. With Old Man Winter making an early appearance this year here in New York (it seems like this is the case every year), the timing for this jacket review could not have come at a more appropriate time.

The jacket is a pullover style in design and features a deep storage pouch on the front with velcro cuffs on the sleeves and a passthrough pocket that is zippered on both ends. The hood is generous in size and has a pullstrap for adjusting. A red 4-inch patch of the Imperial cog is included on the right side of the chest along with vehicle ID for the Death Star in red Aurebesh characters written inside the zippered mesh pocket located on the left arm.

The outer shell of the jacket is made of 100% nylon with a lining composition of 51% supplex nylon and 49% polyester. The jacket’s insulation is 100% polyester. The combination of these materials makes for a jacket that hits the right balance of weight and warmth while not being restrictive or cumbersome. This piece would make for an excellent ski jacket.

Columbia’s Star Wars Challenger Jackets will be available online beginning 12:01 am ET on December 6 and at select Columbia Sportswear retail stores in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong SAR, and United Kingdom. Many thanks to Columbia for providing me with this jacket ahead of the winter season and I hope you are able to obtain one for yourself in either this black Dark side version or the grey Light side version. Trust me – you will not be disappointed in the quality and design of this jacket.
