The new design has a different colour and shape.

Respawn Entertainment has changed the design of the lightsaber wielded by protagonist Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order after receiving feedback during E3.

Game director Stig Asmussen spoke about the design change with Game Informer. When asked about the in-game saber design, which features a solid blue hue rather than a white ‘core’ as seen in most other lightsabers, Asmussen explained that it was not Respawn’s intention to redesign the classic sci-fi sword, but was instead simply a mistake.

“We made a mistake on that one and since then we’ve fixed it,” Asmussen said. “That was very fair feedback, very fair criticism, and we’ve tweaked that. We’ve also tweaked the shape of the lightsaber blade a little bit as well, too. You can see the difference right away.”

With that in mind, the next time we see gameplay of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the lightsaber should be notably more familiar in style. That time is likely to be Gamescom, which takes place in Germany at the end of August.
