Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has teased the studio’s next game, saying fans will learn more about what’s coming next “sooner rather than later.” He said this new game, whatever it might be, should be intriguing for fans of the Bordelands series, so naturally, people think he’s referring to the rumored Borderlands 4 or Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2.
“Oh man, I don’t think I’ve done a good enough job of hiding the fact that we’re working on something,” Pitchford told TheGamer. “And I think people that love Borderlands are going to be very excited about what we’re working on. These are fuzzy words, but sooner rather than later, we’re going to be talking about what we’ve been working on, and I can’t wait.”
The executive went on to say that there are “so many great things coming with Borderlands” spread across different types of media.
“I think I’m genetically made to try and create joy and happiness, and build entertainment. I love movies and I love video games, I love entertainment,” he said. “I can’t wait to talk about the stuff that we’re working on with our fans.”
The next big Borderlands release is the Borderlands movie, which premieres on August 9, featuring Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
It’s unknown when Gearbox could announce its next game projects, though one possibility is during Gamescom Opening Night Live in August, though this is only speculation. Gearbox was independent, then was acquired by Embracer, and is now owned by Grand Theft Auto owner Take-Two.
