Set in the 8th century, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice immerses players in the journey of Senua, a Pict warrior grappling with psychosis. Her quest unfolds as she ventures into Helheim, the Norse realm of the dead, in a desperate bid to rescue her deceased lover, Dillion. Senua’s psychosis manifests as auditory hallucinations, which she interprets as Furies propelling her forward.

Guided by visions of Dillion, Senua traverses a treacherous path fraught with personal demons and external threats. Along the way, she confronts her traumatic past, including her mother’s psychosis and tragic demise, as well as the abuse inflicted upon her by her father. Despite finding solace in her relationship with Dillion, their happiness is short-lived as a devastating plague and ruthless Viking raid ravage their village. Senua’s subsequent journey to Helheim is a poignant odyssey of self-discovery and acceptance, culminating in a climactic confrontation with Hela, the goddess of death, where she finds closure amidst the fading remnants of the realm.

Through its deeply immersive narrative, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice explores themes of mental illness, trauma, and resilience, inviting players to embark on a profound journey of introspection and empathy. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II releases on May 21 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
