Capcom has officially confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will arrive on March 22, 2024, a detail which had previously leaked earlier this month. And to prove that it’s the sprawling, emergent circus fans have been waiting for since the original, the fantasy RPG debuted a new trailer and revealed more details about its gameplay and story, and it all continues to look and sound great.
During a Dragon’s Dogma 2 showcase yesterday, Capcom explained that the sequel will take place in a world similar to but seperate from the one in the first game. A Dragon will still steal the heart of the player’s character, granting them the powers of the Arisen, and beings from another dimension called Pawns can still be called forth to assist the player in their journey.

Part reboot, part remake, Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s story will focus on the human kingdom of Vermund, caught in a succession battle, and Battahl, the beastren nation where Pawns are shunned. We don’t know how all of that will play out, but Dragon’s Dogma has always primarily been about causing chaos in big battles against mystical foes. To that point, the latest trailer revealed the bronze giant Talos who looks like a Greek Titan. Check it out:
Capcom also announced a new class called Trickster. It’s a support role that lets you use smoke and illusions to confuse enemies and make them fight amongst themselves. It also has abilities that can be used to buff your entire battle party. Like Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s other “vocations,” players can switch between them after visiting the guild in town.

We also got a better look at the game’s character creator. Making a beastren will offer a surprising amount of details to play with, from fur patterns and thicknesses to micromanaging ear sizes. Everything from the tips and lobes to the angle and openness can be tweaked with a slider. It definitely feels like the kind of thing players will spend an hour messing with before even starting the game (which is precisely the reason I just opt for presets these days).
“Dragon’s Dogma is a game that I dreamed of playing as a boy who loved TRPG-based games and action games, and I have a special attachment to it,” director Hideaki Itsuno wrote in a PlayStation Blog post. “Dragon’s Dogma 2 incorporates ideas that were not technically feasible at the time we created the first game. I believe this game will let you experience the fantasy world you’ve always dreamed of, a fantasy world action simulator game, and ultimately be the ultimate Dragon’s Dogma.”
