It’s about family, but also dollar bills. That’s what keeps the Fast and Furious franchise speeding around the box office tracks, as Fast X has now passed $500 million worldwide.
Variety reports Fast X brought in $28.7 million domestically over the long holiday weekend, bringing its total to $113.6 million. The Toretto family is performing much better internationally. Deadline estimates the action flick has earned over $399 million overseas, meaning Fast X has cleared the half-billion dollar milestone.
That makes Fast X the third-highest grossing movie of 2023 so far. The two films in front of it also raked in more cash over the weekend: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $26.1 million (over $730 million globally), while The Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed $8.3 million (over $1.2 billion globally). The Nintendo and Illumination project is only the 10th animated movie ever to cross the $1 billion threshold. Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid was the winner over Memorial Day weekend. The film brought in over $117 million domestically.
Thanks to Fast X, the Fast and Furious franchise has now surpassed $7 billion worldwide at the box office. That puts the series in exclusive company, as it’s the fifth-highest of all time. Fast 7 was the best performer with over $1.5 billion earned worldwide in 2015.
