E3 2023 has been canceled, but it was never the only show in town. There are plenty of other high-profile showcases coming this June, so now that it’s May, it’s about time to start gearing up for some big news and reveals.
Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest will kick things off on June 8, and the party keeps rolling that weekend with Xbox and Starfield events. These will be followed shortly thereafter by even more showcases, including the PC Gaming Show and Ubisoft Forward. So while E3 2023 is not going forward, the week it was scheduled for will still be quite busy (and hopefully exciting!). Beyond that, June won’t be the end of things, as Gamescom takes place in August with its usual Opening Night Live event on August 22.
And, as usual, we would not be surprised to learn about additional events in the time to come. After all, a PlayStation Showcase is rumored for summer and Nintendo is always a wildcard, so we would never be surprised if the Mario company announces another Direct out of nowhere; last year it hosted a Direct Mini in June. Below you can see the schedule as we know it so far–keep checking back for updates.
- Summer Game Fest: June 8
- Future Games Show Summer Showcase: June 10
- Xbox Games Showcase: June 11
- Starfield Showcase: June 11
- PC Gaming Show: June 11
- Ubisoft Forward: June 12
- Devolver Digital: June
- Gamescom Opening Night Live: August 22

Summer Game Fest
Summer Games Fest 2023 will air live from the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park on June 8. Fans can attend in person by purchasing tickets to go hands-on with some of the games at the show. It’s still early days, so there is no word yet on a specific time for the event or any teases for what to expect. But history tells us the showcase will deliver news, trailers, and other reveals. Last year’s partners included 2K, Activision, Capcom, Atlus, EA, Sega, Netflix, and more.

Xbox Games Showcase
Shortly after Summer Game Fest, Microsoft will host two events on June 11, the first of which is its big Xbox Games Showcase. It’s likely that Microsoft will dig into its upcoming release slate, including the next Forza Motorsport title and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Other Xbox games in development that could get some attention include Avowed, Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, and Perfect Dark. We could also hear about Rare’s next game, Everwild, or the rumored new Gears game. We’d also expect some product and platform news about the Xbox ecosystem.
There won’t be any Starfield at the Xbox Games Showcase, however, because Microsoft is dedicating an entire event to it.

Starfield Direct
After Bethesda’s big release in May, Redfall, came up short with critics, many will be looking to Starfield to rev things up. Starfield, a sci-fi RPG, is Bethesda Game Studios’ first new IP in 25 years, so fans are understandably excited and interested in the Starfield Direct on June 11.
BGS’ first new game since 2018’s Fallout 76, Starfield is directed by Todd Howard and made by the team that created Fallout 4 and Skyrim. We can expect the Starfield Direct to dive deep into Starfield and give players reasons to get excited ahead of its highly anticipated launch in September. A start time for the Starfield Direct was not announced, but it will immediately follow the Xbox Games Showcase.
- Time: Immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase

PC Gaming Show
PC Gamer’s PC Gaming Show returns June 11 in what is shaping up to be a very busy day for big events. This event will take place after the Xbox Games Showcase and the Starfield Showcase, but a specific start time has not been confirmed. PC Gamer said to expect more details to come in the time ahead. But what we do know is that Sean “Day9” Plott is coming back to host. PC Gamer started the PC Gaming Show in 2015 and has held a new one each year since.

Ubisoft Forward
Ubisoft’s annual event, Ubisoft Forward, will take place June 12 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. The event will broadcast live from Los Angeles, but there is no word yet on what to expect beyond “game updates and reveals.” Some likely candidates for games to appear at the event include Skull & Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and probably much more.

Devolver Digital, the boutique games publisher behind titles like Hotline Miami and Genital Jousting, will have its annual Devolver Direct event this June. More information will be announced “soon.” Devolver’s events are known to be… extreme. So it’ll be interesting to see what the company has on tap for 2023.

Gamescom Opening Night Live
Gamescom Opening Night Live is historically an event where news is announced and trailers are released, and we expect 2023 to be no different. A specific time for the event has not been confirmed, but last year’s Opening Night Live showcase began at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET and ran for about two hours.
The Gamescom Opening Night Live event is the introduction to Gamescom, which runs August 23-27 at the Koelnmesse exhibition center. Hundreds of thousands are people are expected to attend what is usually one of the most widely attended video game events of the year.
