Apex Legends is a spin-off game from Respawn’s Titanfall series, but the battle royale game’s unique identity means that it can sometimes be easy to forget that. However, Titanfall fans hoping to have more Titanfall-y elements in the battle royale shooter should look forward to Season 9. Though the specifics aren’t available yet, the game’s director seems pretty confident they’ll be satisfied.

Speaking on a panel by BrownGirlGamerCode (via Dexerto), Apex Legends game director Chad Grenier hyped up the Titanfall content that will come to the game for Season 9.

“I’ve told some people before, if you’re a Titanfall fan, hang on for Season 9 because there’s gonna be some really cool stuff there.”

Though there have been some rumors that an actual Titan could come to the game, which we haven’t seen in the few years Apex Legends has been available, this would go against what Respawn Entertainment has discussed in the past. Because of the level design and movement of the Apex Legends heroes, as well as keeping matches balanced for their duration, bringing in giant, lumbering robots didn’t make sense. We wouldn’t count on Titans coming to the game.

In the Titanfall games, the titular walking tanks aren’t indestructible, however. With anti-titan weapons, some clever ambushing, and teamwork, it’s not all that difficult to take one down, but this would certainly still skew matches in the Titan-user’s favor when only a few battle royale players remain. Titans’ weapons also make them extremely deadly at long ranges, further complicating their inclusion in big, open maps.

We haven’t heard much about a potential third Titanfall game in the last few years, though EA has said it’s up to Respawn whether or not that game gets made. Titanfall 2 didn’t sell quite as well as EA had hoped, but it was critically acclaimed. Part of the reason for its lower-than-expected sales figures may have been because of its launch date, which was just a week after EA’s own Battlefield 1 and one week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
