still remains a bit of a mystery, but after years of trickled trailers and footage, things aren’t nearly as hazy any more. We got a massive taste of what its director Hideo Kojima thinks will start a new genre at Tokyo Game Show 2019, from its tiniest of details to the larger scope of the title’s gameplay.We’ve rounded up every cinematic and trailer and collected every minute detail we could about the gameplay so far so you wouldn’t have to put every single one of the pieces together yourself. At its core, Death Stranding is a game about connection–in the most loaded of senses. The entire game is a metaphor, and Kojima himself even confirmed that the game is a metaphor for the modern-day United States. Sam make deliveries to connect people, and to convince them to join the UCA’s social media network called the Chiral Network–thus creating strands of connection. But it doesn’t stop there. Death Stranding’s metaphors also lie within its connections to life and death, and the lack thereof.
Aside from its mystique and deeply seated metaphors, its “very easy” mode also makes it unique. This mode is essentially an interactive movie of sorts, and was designed “for ppl who usually don’t play game, movie fans or RPG fans. [sic] Normal or Hard Mode is for action game fans.” But, that mode also, intentionally or not, has accessibility in mind. Kojima is hopeful that Death Stranding will cause waves in the industry to create a new genre, but doesn’t think it will be quite enough and may create a sequel.
