FromSoftware games are notorious for their multiple and sometimes very obscure endings, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is no different. This page will detail all the endings within the game and how to achieve them.
HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD (Obviously)
This is the fastest ending in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but also the least rewarding
Progressing through the game, you’ll be prompted to return to Ashina Castle with everything you need to end your lord Kuro‘s immortality. All of the Sculptor’s Idols will no longer work, and you’ll find your father Owl awaits you on the rooftop. After speaking with him, he will give you the choice to obey him or Kuro. Choosing the option to obey Owl will trigger this ending. You’ll fight two exclusive bosses to this ending but it cuts out some further gameplay within the game so this ending is not recommended unless you’re on your second or third playthrough.
Note that this ending prevents you from receiving Kuro’s Charm in your second playthrough, which gives you chip damage when blocking if you choose to use it.
Opposite of the Shura ending, when you reach the decision to choose between your father Owl and your Lord Kuro, side with Kuro. This is the ending most players will likely get. Follow the prompts of Lord Kuro and you’ll get a standard ending in the Silvergrass Field outside of Ashina, as long as you didn’t do any of the side quests to get the final two endings.
This ending is slightly better than the Immortal Severance Ending. When presented with the choice between Owl and Kuro, again choose Kuro. After doing this you’ll follow these steps.
- Defeat Owl
- Head to Isshun in his tower and eavesdrop on him and Emma
- Rest and then eavesdrop on your Lord Kuro
- Rest and speak with Emma
- Warp and speak to Emma again at the Old Graves Sculptor‘s Idol.
- Head back to Dilapidated Temple, and eavesdrop on Emma and the Sculptor from the back of the building
- Speak with Emma to receive a bell from her
- Use the bell to pray to Buddha. This unlocks a more difficult version of the Hirata Estate.
- Head through the area as you did before defeating the mini-bosses.
- Heading to the Lady Butterfly boss room, you’ll need to defeat Owl again, only a much tougher version
- After defeating him, progress through the story as normal until the end fight against Saint Sword Isshin.
- After defeating him, choose to give Kuro Divine Tears and Everblossom
You thought the Purification Ending was convoluted? Well this one has even more steps, though it’s worth the work as it’s the best ending in the game. Ready? Here we go.
Note: You’ll want to complete the steps of this questline before defeating the Divine Dragon in the Fountainhead Palace, as you’ll be locked out of completing parts of it after.
Acquire the Holy Tome: Infested[edit]
This item can be gotten in one of two ways depending on how you progressed through the world of Sekiro. If you went to Senpou Temple before beating Genichiro, you’ll find a monk next to the Main Hall Idol who will give you this item.
If you went through Senpou Temple AFTER defeating Genichiro, then you’ll need the Mibu Breathing Technique to get it. You’ll find it in a pool of water near the Temple Grounds Sculptor‘s Idol.
Divine Child[edit]
Give the Holy Tome: Infested to the Divine Child of Rejuvenating Water who you met after defeating the Folding Screen Monkey’s. Next, take rice from the Divine Child until she becomes sick.
You’ll need to refresh the area several times in order to get more rice.
After the Divine Child is sick, give her Persimmons to cure her. If you don’t have any head to the Shugendo Idol and purchase some from the Memorial Mob there. After curing the Divine Child with Persimmons, she will give you some Rice Specifically for Kuro. Head to your Lord and give it to him.
Heading back to the Inner Sanctum Idol, speak with her and then rest. You’ll find she’s moved to the boss area of the Folding Screen Monkeys. She’ll ask you to find the master of the temple. You’ll find his corpse in the cave next to the temple you’re in, bring back the scroll you find on it to the Divine Child, and she’ll then tell you she needs two fruits of the Great Serpent.
From the Sculptor‘s Idol head through the open door and toward the bridge. Going to the area below this, you’ll see a Senpou Assassin standing by the controls of a kite. Deathblow him with stealth from behind, then use the Ninjutsu Puppeteer ability to get him to raise the kite.
With the kite raised, make your way to it. Head up to the first temple with three monks standing outside it. Head through the open window of the temple and use your grappling hook to get to the top of the large tree there. Grappling to the kite, you can cross the valley. Once on the other side, you can travel along the cliff edge and eventually find a cave with a Sculptor‘s Idol. Continue through the cave to reach an overhang above the Great Serpent.
You can probably take it from here, but we’ll walk you through it. Jump off the ledge and use a plunging deathblow on the Great Serpent, which will trigger a second deathblow that will finally put an end to the problematic python.
The first step to finding this item is heading into the bowels of the Sunken Valley. From the Riven Cave Sculptor‘s Idol you can head straight out and make your way down to the poison lakes down below in the valley. You should be able to grapple to praying hands and trees as you make your way down, avoiding the fall damage.
Next you’ll want to find the Toxic Memorial Mob Merchant. There will be several enemies in the area (damned monkeys), but once you find this merchant, you’re heading in the right direction. Head into the cave near him.
Inside this cave you’ll find a massive snake, while the body lies all along the cave, the head is guarding a small shrine, which we need to get to. Follow the path along the right hand side of the cave, taking care to avoid the snake’s body, and not hit it with your sword while attacking any enemies nearby.
Once getting past the body, you’ll arrive at the head guarding the shrine. If you try to run across the bridge, you’ll be met with a snappy death. Look to your left, where you’ll find a small hole he won’t bother you about. Hop down to the ledge below and follow the path up to the terrified monkey. Use a backstab Deathblow on him, followed by your Puppeteer Ninjutsu ability. This will create a distraction for the massive snake. Use the grapple point nearby to swing to a ledge, and hurry to the building behind him, where you’ll find the Dried Serpent Viscera in the hands of a shrine.
Return to the Divine Child[edit]
After you have both Viscera in hand, return to the Inner Sanctum and give the two fruits to the Divine Dhild. Rest and then check on her beyond the closed door. Rest again.
Note that if resting doesn’t reset her to be where you can speak with her, you may need to defeat a boss to progress.
She’ll give you an item called Frozen Tears. After you have this item, prgress through the game as normal and at the end, give Kuro the Frozen Tears and Dragon Tears to achieve this ending.
