Although it still plans to produce shows based on the Marvel universe, the continuation of its current Luke Cage series isn’t part of that plan.
Deadline reports Marvel and Netflix jointly announced their decisions to end the series prematurely. The third season was already in production at the time of the cancellation, with showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker and a team of writers having already spent six months producing scripts for the series. Although the scripts incorporated suggestions from both Marvel and Netflix, the two parties reportedly weren’t fans of where the current scripts were headed.
The cancellation comes in the wake of the recent ending of the Iron Fist Netflix series, though Jessica Jones and Daredevil are still slated to continue. This, along with the recent ending of Marvel’s movie deal with the streaming company, may suggest things are afoot in terms of licence disagreements or shifting.
