The process of getting a Masterful Cast with wand tracing can be a tricky one.
Once you begin tracing the lines, you’ll have a limited time to complete the trace – as a meter at the top goes down. Additionally, depending on how accurate and close to the actual lines you trace, you’ll gain a boost that brings the meter back up. Because of this, you’ll need to be incredibly quick and precise to ensure your casts get the maximum boost with as little drop as possible. Getting a Masterful cast that is succesful will increase your experience gain by +100, and that’s before factoring in other bonuses like the 2x experience potions.
The more powerful a threat a Counfoundable is, the quicker the meter will go down – but there is a way to practice getting incredibly quick and precise lines in certain spells.
According to Reddit User Ghubuli, the process of tracing spells is very similar to the glyphs used in Niantic’s first game, Ingress. A trick was discovered to quickly trace two points on a line by tapping and holding each end, and then letting go of the first – and the line will immediately trace to where your second finger is.
With certain spells including: Arresto Momentum, Bombarda, Diffindo, and Finite that only include straight lines, you can use the following process to create lines quickly:
- Tap and hold the starting point of the trace (the meter will now start lowering)
- Quickly tap and hold the end of the first line where it corners to the next line.
- Now release your finger on the starting point, and tap the end of the second line and corners again.
- Release the second finger that was on the end of the first line, and tap and hold the end of the third line.
- Repeat until you reach the end and let go entirely.
Of course, you’ll need to combine the line trick with speed, which can take a bit of practice, but once you have it down, you’ll be able to quickly create several lines much faster than you would be able to normally tracing line – with the addition of perfect precision.
Note you can also combine this trick with other magic spells that incorporate lines with curves by preparing to either start or stop by making a quick line, and then quickly finishing things with a traced curve.
