VR Support may be added as early as tonight.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, according to dataminers, will potentially be getting Labo VR support and new amiibo modes this week.
SSBUBot, a feed that pulls server update information for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has posted notes about the latest potential upcoming update – 3.1.0, which will add, as early as tonight, a VR mode that is compatible with the Toy-Con VR Goggles to Smash Ultimate.
While not much is known as to what this mode will entail, it promises that “a whole new perspective on the Smash action awaits,” and means Smash Ultimate will join Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as big Nintendo first-party titles that have added VR support.
That’s not all, however, as the update will also bring with it new amiibo functionality with the ability to send them “off on journeys to train.”
You can “send your battle-hardened FPs out into the wide world to spar with other FPs!” Additionally, FPs (Figure Player) will also be able to join Battle Arenas to “show everyone the power of a trained amiibo!”
As for how these Nintendo games feel in VR, we enjoyed how Super Mario Odyssey had an adventure that was “built with the headset’s strengths more firmly in mind,” because we felt Breath of the Wild’s implementation had not done so and didn’t impress us as much as we hoped.
