Watchman[edit]

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: Moscow, Winter.
Description: Protruding joints, sharp claws, and yellowing teeth. Watchman are common, four-legged beasts that travel in packs. When one spots you, it will call for others. This is especially true in big, open areas.
Attack Style: Up close. The Watchman will charge forward and claw you to death. How to Defeat:

How to Defeat:

  • Underground or in tunnels: Shoot them down. Don’t worry about accuracy as long as you hit the target. They move so fast a headshot is not realistic.
  • Out in the open: Avoid them. Once one sees you it will call for back up. They’re easiest to avoid at night but can also be avoided in the daytime. Constantly adjust your camera when traveling to your next destination to look out for them. Crouch to move more quietly. Consider putting a silencer on your shotgun so that you can quietly take out one with a lower chance of the others hearing.
  • Recommended Weapons: Shotguns, semi-automatics.

Humanimal[edit]

Chapter You’ll Find Them In: Every chapter.
Description: Nightmarish creatures descended from humans, reminiscent of zombies.
Attack Style: Up close and far away. They walk on two feet but get on all fours to run or traverse certain areas. In sandy areas, such as The Caspian, they will hide in the sand and sneak attack you. Always be on alert.

  • Up close: Their main goal is to lunge towards you and tear into your flesh.
  • Far away: They will throw bricks at you.

How to Defeat:

  • Shoot them although in some rare cases (such as during The Terminal mission during The Volga chapter) it’s best to just run away. Headshots are best and definitely possible as this creature isn’t as fast or chaotic as others
  • Recommended Weapons: Shotguns, any gun that’s easy to handle but has a good scope for headshots, Molotov cocktails, explosives

How to Defeat:

  • Avoiding them is best: They’re easiest to avoid at night but can also be avoided in the daytime. Constantly adjust your camera when traveling to your next destination to look out for them. Crouch to move more quietly. Consider putting a silencer on your shotgun so that you can quietly take out one with a lower chance of the others hearing.

BUT

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: Metro, Winter Description: A huge winged beast.
Attack Style: Up close. They will grab you by the shoulders and drop you to your death.
How to Defeat: avoid and shoot if they’re coming for you but not once was I attacked during my playthrough. They remained in the distant skies the entire time.

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: Metro, Winter, The Taiga
Description: Mutated crustaceans with hard, armored carapaces. They’re extremely territorial.

Shrimp (Male)[edit]

Attack Style: Up close and far away. Walks on its forelegs in watery areas. It has additional armor plating on its body and will lunge at you when you get close. It uses its massive limbs as clubs and shields at once. From afar, it will spit corrosive mucus at you.

How to Defeat:

  • Shoot it. A lot.
  • Recommended weapons: shotguns because it will take some powerful bullets to break through the armor.

Shrimp (Female)[edit]

Attack Style: Up close and far away. Often found swimming in water, tends to roam in packs. Will swipe at you up close or spit corrosive mucus from afar.

How to Defeat:

  • Shoot it
  • Recommended weapons: shotguns, throwing knives (aim for the non-armored portion but remember you probably can’t retrieve them after if you’re on a boat).

Mutant Spider[edit]

All mutant spiders can be killed by exposure to light. You will encounter 2 different sexes of mutant spiders. Technically there are some slight combat and visual differences but, because you kill them in the same fashion, don’t worry about being able to tell them apart.

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: The Caspian (specifically the Com Center mission), The Taiga

Spider (Male)[edit]

Description: Aggressive, agile, and well armored these creatures hide in the shadows and can make a quick getaway by burrowing into the sand.
Attack Style: Up close. They will lunge towards you from any and every angle. How to Defeat:

  • Kill them by shining your flashlight and/or lighter on them.
  • They will run away from the light so you’ll need to follow them in order to get the kill.
  • While shining a light on one Spider another may attack from behind. To avoid this keep your back pressed up against a wall whenever possible while scoping out Spider infested areas.
  • When a Spider is close to death you sometimes have the option to stab it but it’s not necessary and causes puss to spray all over, obstructing your vision for a moment. Not recommended. And, if you’re using a lighter to kill them, using your knife automatically forces you to put your lighter away, inviting other spiders to attack you.

Spider (Female)[edit]

Description: Aggressive, agile, and with even stronger armor than their male counterpart. Can make a quick getaway by burrowing into the sand.
Attack Style: Up close and far away. They will attack you after they’ve disabled you with wads of webs it can shoot from afar with both power and accuracy.

How to Defeat (same as male):

  • Kill them by shining your flashlight and/or lighter on them.
  • They will run away from the light so you’ll need to follow them in order to get the kill.
  • While shining a light on one Spider another may attack you.

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: The Taiga
Description: Not mutants but still vicious. They hunt in packs.
Attack Style: Up close, running towards you and tearing into your flesh.

How to Defeat:

  • Avoid when possible
  • Shoot howling leaders when from a safe distance
  • Suggested weapons: shotgun or semi-automatics when up close, sniper rifle or Helsing when far away.

Mutant Bear[edit]

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: The Taiga
Description: A massive beast of a bear.
Attack Style: Up close. It cuts deep with its massive claws and can send you a few feet back.

How to Defeat:

  • Avoid It: the first time you encounter this bear (in the cemetery) just cut the rope a second time and climb the ladder to safety. The second time, you will have have to do a certain amount of damage before triggering the cutscene but even then you hide behind the wooden wheel where the bear cannot reach you:
  • When fighting: Molotov cocktails and incendiary weapons are best because its thick fur is very flammable.

Leeches[edit]

Chapters You’ll Find Them In: Dead City

Attack Style: From wherever they are. Will spray mucus at you.

  • Armored from head to toe (rare): Use your most powerful guns, incendiary weapons, and explosives.

Some enemies, particularly in The Caspian, will have a dog that’s trained to sniff out and attack anyone that crosses their path. If the dog sees you it will bark nonstop.

  • Avoid getting spotted
  • If you are spotted, use a shotgun with a silencer on it or throwing knives.
