Epic Games has unveiled its new rewards program for the Epic Game Store, titled Epic Rewards. This new program will give players 5% back in rewards on every eligible purchase made on the storefront, and will be available from today.
All Epic Games account holders will be enrolled in the Epic Rewards program at purchase point, and is automatically active whenever new games, apps, add-ons, or virtual currency is purchased. Once you’ve bought an eligible game or digital content, the Epic Rewards will be added to your account balance two weeks after the purchase was made.
Epic says that you’ll be able to apply your rewards on checkout to get a discount off future eligible purchases, or save them for later. Additionally, Epic Rewards can be combined with other discounts and coupons to save even more when you check out. There is an expiration date attached to Epic Rewards, as they’ll expire 25 months from the date that they were acquired.
Since it first launched several years ago, Epic has slowly improved its storefront to turn it into a viable alternative to Steam. The digital distribution hub features a more generous revenue split for creators who sell their games on the Epic Game Store, it has weekly free games, and it has managed to secure a number of timed-exclusives over the years like The Division 2, Metro Exodus, and Borderlands 3.
2022 saw some big business done on the site, as monthly active users peaked at 68 million and almost 700 million free games were claimed. Overall, players spent $820 million on Epic’s own games last year–down slightly by 2% compared to 2021–and $355 million on third-party applications, an 18% increase year-over-year.
