Respawn has announced the next update for Apex Legends will go live on December 3. The new update adds a vast increase to the in-game level cap and also makes some welcome changes to how Apex Legends’ progression system works.

The biggest change included in the update is the increase in the level cap. Since launch, the level cap for Apex Legends has been 100. Come December 3, that number is jumping up to 500. As a part of this change, there are now new level badges in Apex Legends–each one is earned every 10 levels between 110 and 500.

To encourage you to jump back into Apex Legends and continue leveling up, the progression system for the battle royale game will be altered too. The XP required to reach level 100 has been reduced by 5% in an effort to give newcomers a chance to catch up. There are new Apex Pack and Gun Charm awards associated with reaching certain level milestones too. The process of going from level 1 to 500 will net you 199 Apex Packs and 36 new epic and legendary tier Gun Charms. The new Apex Pack progression is outlined below.

New Apex Pack Unlock Progression

  • Level 2-20: One pack every level (19 Apex Packs total)
  • Level 22-300: One pack every two levels (140 Apex Packs total)
  • Level 305-500: One pack every five levels (40 Apex Packs total)

If you’ve already been playing Apex Legends, don’t worry. When the update goes live on December 3, all rewards will be retroactively earned. So, for example, if you’re already level 100, you’ll unlock 14 Apex Packs and a new Gun Charm when you log on. Though certain Gun Charms are exclusively tied to progressing to certain levels, those that aren’t will be added to the in-game store rotation as items that can be bought with currency.

Apex Legends is currently in the midst of Season 3: Meltdown, having concluded the season’s first two events: the Halloween-themed Fight or Fright and partner-focused Duos. The new season has transferred the Apex Games to a brand-new map, World’s Edge, and seen the arrival of a brand-new playable character, Crypto. The game’s most powerful gun has been nerfed (again) and a new firing range has been added that allows you to test all of Apex Legends’ playable characters before buying any of them. Apex Legends is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
