Steve Sansweet, responsible for igniting the spark for collecting in many, following his numerous Star Wars books and his role at Lucasfilm as the Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations, is celebrating his 80th birthday today.
Born on June 14th, 1945, he continues to share his passion with the world in the form of Rancho Obi-Wan, the largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia in the world as recognised by Guinness World Records. He previously worked as a reporter and later Los Angeles bureau chief at The Wall Street Journal, before joining Lucasfilm in 1996.

Steve: Steve has not just influenced my collecting, but also the way I see Star Wars. To have the energy to keep Rancho Obi-Wan going as he does, is a true testament to him and his dedication to Star Wars and its fans.
Mark: Steve was the one who opened the world of star wars to me in the nineties. The encyclopaedia and the action figure guide were staples of my youth and welcomed me to the wider world.
Jason: My knowledge of Steve’s work came from Steve Galloway telling me about this great place called Rancho Obi-Wan. Having researched online I discovered that Rancho Obi-Wan was an Aladdin’s cave of everything Star Wars curated by Steve and his team. Seeing Steve’s enthusiasm and knowledge is inspiring, making it a dream that one day I will myself visit this magical place he has created.
