Sonic the Hedgehog fans should be wary of spoilers making their way online, as storyboards allegedly from the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 live-action movie and the upcoming Paramount+ series Knuckles have leaked on social media.
We won’t get into specifics of what is shown in the storyboards, as at least one of them has some major spoilers for the third film starring Sonic’s angsty rival Shadow. Any doubts about their authenticity has gone out the window as Paramount has had them taken down from sites hosting the clips. So while they might not stay up in one place for very long, they are out there and appear to be real. Ultimately, these are storyboards, and a lot can change in film development, so whether these specific scenes show up in the final movie remains to be seen.
We’ve reached out to Paramount for comment on the situation and will update the story if we hear back.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to premiere in theaters on December 20, 2024, with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all returning after finally forming their iconic trio in 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Knuckles will star Idris Elba as the titular echidna and will bridge the gap between both films. Hopefully, Knuckles’ rival, Rouge the Bat, makes an appearance in the show and can join in on the action in the third film.
Based on what little we know about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 so far, it seems like it’s drawing heavily from Sonic Adventure 2, the Dreamcast game in which Shadow made his debut. Rouge rounds out the game’s “Dark” route alongside Shadow and the series’ antagonist Dr. Eggman, which lets players follow the story from the perspective of the villains.
The Sonic live-action movies have been among the most successful video game adaptations of recent years, with the second originally being the record holder for the highest-grossing game adaptation before 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
