Sony has released an update globally for PlayStation 5 that adds new accessibility, audio, and social features.
The update includes a number of features from the latest PS5 beta, including using a second DualSense controller for assistance, new audio options that allow 3D Audio powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech to be enjoyed on compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices, new ways to connect with other players and customise your multiplayer sessions, and support for larger-capacity M.2 SSDs (up to 8TB).
Meanwhile, the update introduces a number of new features, such as support for PS Remote Play on more Android devices, with new enhancements coming to the PS App in the coming weeks.
PS Remote Play, which lets you stream games from your PS5 or PlayStation 4 to another device, including iOS or Android smartphones or tablets and PCs and Macs, over the internet or through your home network, is now expanded to include devices running Android TV OS 12. Chromecast with Google TV (4K model) and the BRAVIA XR A95L model are currently verified.
Elsewhere, the update improves voice command. Users in the U.S. and UK can now say “Hey PlayStation, help” to activate Help content, and can navigate between help content pages using Voice Command. You can also say “Hey PlayStation, what’s new?” to check for new PS5 features and see the current PlayStation Plus monthly games lineup.
As was in the case with the PS5 update beta, this global rollout means every PS5 user can now finally mute the PS5 beep sound when turning it on or off, or putting it in rest mode. Here’s how to do it:
- Go to [Settings] > [System] > [Beep Sound]
- To adjust the beep sound volume, select [Volume]
- To mute the beep sound, turn on [Mute Beep Sound]
Later this month, Sony will roll out new features for the PS App on iOS and Android, so you’ll be able to react to messages with emojis and see a preview of someone’s Share Screen before joining the party on PS App.
