While we don’t know what Star Wars stories will be told on the big screen in the future, Disney CEO Bob Iger has hinted at what the future of the franchise could potentially include. With the first season of The Mandalorian ending on the Disney+ streaming service, it’s entirely possible it or any of the service’s upcoming Star Wars offerings could wind up becoming movies.

“I don’t look at it as just television, I look at it as an extension of Star Wars storytelling,” Iger said during an appearance on The Star Wars Show [via Slashfilm]. “What Disney+ has given us the ability to do is to do just that, is to bring Star Wars to people in new ways, and to bring new Star Wars to people. It’s not the same places or the same characters. Just look at Mandalorian. While, obviously, there’s a lot shared, there’s a lot that’s really fresh, and I love that.”

And while Disney+ is allowing new corners of the Star Wars galaxy to be explored, Iger believes it would be easy to take those TV stories and continue them on film–or vice-versa. “I love the ability to really be agnostic in terms of what platform it’s being made for,” he explained. “And so it could be, down the road, that a TV show becomes a movie and a movie becomes a TV series. I’m not making any announcements here or not, but I think it’s important for us to be agnostic.”

As previously revealed, the second season of The Mandalorian started filming before Season 1 premiered. That will debut in fall 2020, with an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone series following. Based on what Iger is saying, though, either of these shows–or any of the others coming in the future– could be continued as films. With the Skywalker Saga over after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, perhaps now is the time to give Baby Yoda his own nine-movie series.
