The Sons of Anarchy spinoff, Mayans MC, has been renewed for a third season. TV network FX gave the renewal order on the same day as the Season 2 finale.
FX renewed Mayans following the firing of co-creator Kurt Sutter earlier this year. Going forward, co-creator Elgin James will take over as showrunner.
Season 3 will premiere in Fall 2020.
“We’re happy to continue telling the story of Mayans M.C. with our partners at Fox 21 and excited that Elgin James has earned the opportunity to become the series’ showrunner,” FX original programming boss Nick Grad said, according to Deadline.
“Kurt Sutter identified and chose Elgin as his partner on the show from the outset, and Elgin has been instrumental to the success of the series, leveraging his experience and creative vision to make Mayans M.C. with this incredible cast, crew, and creative team.”
Mayans was the most-watched new show on cable TV in 2018, and its second season performed nicely as well; it averaged 4.6 million viewers per episode.
A spinoff of Sons of Anarchy, Mayans follows the story of a new character, EZ Reyes (JD Pardo) who joins the Mayans M.C. club near the border of Mexico in California. Clayton Cardenas plays his brother, while Edward James Olmos portrays his father.
