Nioh 2 was announced at Sony’s 2018 E3 press conference, and instead of original protagonist Irish sailor William, Nioh 2 will allow players to create their own character that’s half human and half yokai (read: demon). Some Nioh fans got the chance to play a closed alpha earlier this year, but this is the first time the game has been made available to a mass audience.

According to Game Informer, Nioh 2 will serve as a prequel to the original, but also exists as a standalone entry. Players will be able to collect “soul cores” from demons they battle in order to utilize some of that demon’s abilities in combat.
