Cyberpunk 2077’s Character Creation and Life Path

– The player character, V, can choose one of three Life Paths for his character that will help define their past – Nomad, Street Kid, Corporate

– The description of Nomad – “Roaming the Badlands, looting scrapyards, raiding fuel depots – life on the road wasn’t easy. But growing up In a nomad clan has its perks. Honesty, integrity, and a love of freedom – qualities that few in Night City possess, and no amount of money can buy.”

– The description of Street Kid – “They say if you wanna understand the streets, you gotta live ‘em. Gangs, fixers, dolls, small-time pushers – you were raised by them all. Down here the law of the jungle dictates the weak serve the strong – the only law in Night City you have yet to break.”

– The description of Corporate – “Few leave the corporate world with their lives – fewer still with their souls intact. You’ve been there – you’ve bent the rules, exploited secrets, and weaponized information. There’s no such thing as a fair game, only winners and losers.”

– Player’s Life Path will influence how other’s interact with them, but a player is not beholden to their past and can change.

– Create a character by choosing body type, appearance, and attributes, which include Body, Intelligence, Reflexes, Technical, and Cool

– Cool is not about simply looking cool in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, but how a player’s character reacts and performs under intense pressure.

Cyberpunk 2077 Character Builds – Solo, Techie, Netrunner

– Cyberpunk 2077 does not limit player’s and force them to chose a single class. Players can mix and match skills and attributes and create the V that they wish to embody.

– There are three main archetypes – Solo, Techie, and Netrunner – although players can become a hybrid class and combine aspects of each one if they so desire.

– In the demo, we were shown a Netrunner class and a Strong Solo class.

– The Netrunner is able to hack and manipulate many devices in Cyberpunk 2077’s world. They can use Nanowires to hack enemies and machines from afar. The Nanowires can also be used as a whip to slice up enemies.

– One example in the demo saw the player character hacking into a bench press machine while a gang member from the Animals was using it, causing it to crush and kill him. Another example saw the Netrunner hacking into a training droid that was fighting another Animal gang member. He turned off the droids safety and the droid proceeded to land a killing blow on the gang member, causing a distraction in the process.

– Netrunners can hack into access points to control devices in an area and even quick hack cameras and turrets. Players can play as a stealthy Netrunner, an aggressive Netrunner, or a combination of both and even more.

– Strong Solo characters can use their strength to create a completely new play experience. They can rip turrets off their base and use them as weapons, open doors with brute strength.

– Techies can use devices and hardware to their advantage, including the ability to use Flathead the autonomous robot ally. V can send Flathead to manipulate devices, repair items, attack enemies, and much more.

Cyberpunk 2077 Weapons, Perks, Skills, Gear, and Cyberware

– Guns can be one of many classes, including Smart guns that have homing bullets, Tech weapons that can pierce covers, and Power weapons and are street-grade firearms like a bursting shotgun.

– The looks and attachments of weapons can be customized, and some will change how a weapon reacts. Also, a players skill with weapons will determine how well V handles a gun.

– Many weapons have a background and a story behind them, like one class that was made by Russians to fight cyborgs and utilizes bullets that heat up to incinerate cyborg body parts.

– Some weapons have a second firing mode, and one example given was a Tech rifle that can collapse on itself to allow it to pierce cover and shoot through walls or bounce bullets using ricochet.

– Cyberpunk will also feature a shotgun with 8 barrels that all shoot at the same time.

– Melee Weapons will be available, and include everything from a broken bottle to a knife to katanas and more. They can also be thrown at enemies.

– Cyberware allows players to augment their bodies and replace body parts with cybernetic implants. One example given was replacing V’s legs with ones that can allow for a double jump. They can also be further upgraded, which will allow for those legs to double jump silently.

– There are other Cyberware enhancements that will give V super-human reflexes and will appear to the player as an activated slowing of time ability. Enemies can also utilize this and will appear as though they are zipping across a battlefield towards you.

– Perks and Skills can be used in tandem and can improve one another. One perk is Coldblood, which will allow players to survive in tough situations and give a boost in damage when health is low. Another is Athletics, which can be improved to allow players to pick up dead bodies to hide and not be slowed down by them.

– CD Projekt Red is aware of the problem that occurs when a cool-looking piece of gear doesn’t have the best stats, and it is working on a way to allow players to look how they want and still maintaining the best gear.

Cyberpunk’s Night City, The Six Districts, and Gangs

– Night City includes six districts that are very distinct and have a storied past. They are meant to orient the player and let them visually know where they are as they move from one district to another.

– The district featured in the demo was Pacifica. It was once meant to be a tourist destination, but when financial hardships hit, investors abandoned the district and it became a dangerous place with the promise of what could have been.

– The Voodoo Boys are the dominant gang in Pacifica and began as Haitians who left their home in the 2060’s following a natural disaster. They brought their culture and are the best hackers in Night City. They don’t usually work with outsiders, but V has a chance to earn their trust by helping them take down another gang, the Animals.

– The Animals are a group of people who value strength and power over all else. They lift, love Juice (provides strength and speed), and are used as bouncers around town.

– Whereas the Voodoo boys are defined by who they are, the Animals are defined by what they do. Each gang will feel distinct and have its own story.

Cyberpunk 2077 Screenshots and Detailed Weapon and Character Models

– Players will be able to utilize cars and motorcycles to get around Night City. V can even keep them at their apartment and name them. Yes, you can name your car Roach.

– There are flying cars that players may have a chance to encounter as well.

– CD Projekt Red hired city planners on its staff to help build out Night City to make it feel as real as possible.

– There will be no loading screens present as player’s travel throughout Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Street Stories, Keanu Reeves’s Johnny Silverhand, and Cyberspace

– Street Stories are the sidequests in Cyberpunk 2077. They can be given by Fixers or other in the world and will be as expansive as those found in the Witcher franchise. They will also help player’s learn more about each district and those that make them tick.

– Keanu Reeve’s Johnny Silverhand is a digital construct that follows V around and lives on a chip that V has. You can make him an ally or friend as well.

– The Voodoo are interested in Cyberspace, which resembles the Matrix in a sense. It is an embodiment of the network of Night City and is a link to the deepnet and they key to move “beyond the Blackwall.”

Choice and Consequence in Cyberpunk 2077

– Players have an amazing array of options to tackle each situation as they please in Cyberpunk 2077. In the demo, V had to infiltrate an old Mall that was taken over by the Animals and their leader Sasquatch. Players could tackle it how they please, by killing or letting Sasquatch live after a fight, or even avoiding the fight all together.

– Players can choose to side with certain gangs or factions or not. V can choose to betray the Voodoo Boys and go with NetWatch, who wants to “maintain the old order and protect people from AI anarchy originating from beyond the Blackwall.” The Voodoo boys want to “establish contact with the free AIs. They believe this will enable their boundless expansion on the net.”

– Every choice matters in Cyberpunk 2077 and there is no truly good or bad answer, all choices live somewhere in the middle and are left for the player decide which path to take.
