Classic may already be suffering from server overpopulation. At least according to Blizzard who analyzed the number of name reservations for Classic servers. In a new blog post, World of Warcraft community manager Randy Jordan said that based on name reservations, which Blizzard opened up for World of Warcraft Classic earlier this month, “Herod realm is looking to be massively overpopulated.” World of Warcraft Classic isn’t even scheduled to launch until the end of the month.
Jordan says that at this rate, login queues for World of Warcraft Classic’s Herod realm could be in excess of 10,000 players “and possibly much higher than that.”
Jordan is urging players to consider moving to the new Stalagg realm server Blizzard opened up to alleviate the overpopulation problem. Blizzard wants as many players as possible to move to Stalagg realm before opening anymore PvP servers. This is to ensure even distribution of players across the whole game.
“Our top priority in planning for WoW Classic’s launch has been ensuring that we are laying the groundwork for strong realm communities that will endure over the months and years to follow,” Jordan says.
It should be noted that WoW’s current servers can fit many more players in a single realm than what was possible back in 2006. Today’s Medium realm already has more characters than the most crowded realms in 2006. However, Blizzard says it will not be raising the population cap any further as that “would simply forestall the problem,” and create severe queues later on.
So, if you’re looking forward to jumping back into WoW Classic, consider moving your character to another server to ensure the best experience for everyone. Check out our WoW Classic preview right here and get ready when WoW Classic is released on August 27.
