was July’s best-selling video game, marking the 20th consecutive year that a Madden NFL game became the best-selling game of its release month. Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the second best-selling game of July 2019, followed by Super Mario Maker 2.Madden NFL 20 immediately became the eight-best-selling game of 2019 thanks to the massive popularity of the Madden NFL game franchise. Our Madden NFL 20 review said this year’s entry had some of the best moment-to-moment gameplay in the series. However, we found other areas like the Franchise mode to be a bit lacking this year.
Meanwhile, Fire Emblem: Three Houses had the best launch of any Fire Emblem game in U.S. history. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is already the second best-selling game in the Fire Emblem franchise behind Fire Emblem: Awakening.

It should be noted that six of the top 10 best-selling games of July 2019 are Nintendo Switch exclusives. Along with Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Mario Maker 2, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild all made the top 10 list for July 2019.
