Where the E3 demo had skipped between sections featuring Captain America and Black Widow, this demo lingered for a little longer, showing the wider devastation being caused by an attack on San Francisco. Amidst that devastation, we see a young girl wearing a Captain Marvel T-shirt, calling for her mother before seemingly being affected by leaking Terrigen Mist.
It feels like a fairly major clue to Kamala Khan’s appearance, primarily because the comics’ current Ms. Marvel is a Captain Marvel fan, and gained her powers through exposure to Terrigen.
It ties nicely into some unknowns about the game itself, too. A female narrator appears in the footage, saying that despite people saying never to meet your heroes, meeting the Avengers was “awesome” (which fits Kamala’s positive attitude in the comics). The gameplay footage is also a prologue, with the main storyline taking place 5 years later, giving that girl time to grow up into the teenage Kamala Khan we now know.
It may well be, given her prominence in the narration, that it’s Kamala Khan that helps reassemble the game’s Avengers (who seemingly disband after Captain America’s apparent death in the prologue) – “reassemble” was the original tagline for the game, after all.
If you want to test our theories for yourself, you’ll have to wait until after Gamescom next month, when the extended gameplay demo will be released publicly.
