But they’ll never escape our hearts.
While the world waits for King Kong to eventually get around to fighting Godzilla, another brand of apes are quietly waiting for their moment to shine once again. A new Ape Escape game may be in the works, if some suspicious tweets are to be believed.
A relatively new Twitter account by the name of @piposaru20th tweeted out this image, along with the translated caption: “Piposar (20 years since then. I’ve been running around, but i wonder if there’s anyone chasing me anymore.” The image shows a titular ape from the Ape Escape franchise peeking around a tree.
Typically, any reputable news wouldn’t traffic in tweets from unverified Twitter accounts. However, it turns out that Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan’s verified Twitter follows this mysterious @piposaru20th account. SIE Japan only follows about 147 other accounts.
It’s possible that Sony is interested in making a new installment of Ape Escape, or possibly a remaster or remake of a previous installment in the series. MediEvil is the most recent PS1 era fan favorite to receive the remake treatment, and is slated for an October 25 release date.
Joseph Knoop is a writer and producer for IGN, and he has no intentions of escaping. Ape out with him on Twitter.
