“Mayhem is coming September 13.”
While it is obviously April Fools’ Day, a now deleted tweet from the official Borderlands Twitter account may have accidentally revealed a September 13 release date for Borderlands 3.
You can see the now deleted tweet in question below, which IGN took a screenshot of, and it reveals the September 13, 2019, release date alongside a call to “pre-order now for the Gold Weapon Skins Pack!”
Considering that it is April 1, it’s important to note this could have been some attempt at a joke, but there isn’t anything too out of the ordinary about this announcement.
Furthermore, it was actually accompanied by another tweet that contained a video that also may confirm that Borderlands 3 will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
IGN did reach out to Gearbox and 2K and they gave us a short response with a fitting accompanying image – ¯_(ツ)_/¯
This tweet also appeared on the community page of Borderlands.com, as spotted by @WeirdScienceX, even though it may have just been the page aggregating all of the tweets from the official account.
This date does go against some fan theories that claim they figured out, based on Borderlands 3 reveal trailer, that the release date will be either October 1 or January 10.
Borderlands 3 was officially revealed last week at PAX East and while no release date, pricing, or platforms were revealed, it was confirmed that more info would be coming on April 3, which is only a couple days away and could account for this potential error.
