QuakeCon 2023 is coming back to Grapevine, Texas this summer from August 10 to 13.

The organizers announced the comeback of the convention — which celebrates Doom, Quake, and some other Bethesda games — on Monday, saying it will be the first in-person event since 2019. It said this year’s convention will bring greater emphasis to the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) event.

“QuakeCon is our favorite event of the year, and we can’t wait to finally see our incredible QuakeCon community in-person again, celebrate games, and frag all weekend with thousands of friends,” id Software studio head Marty Stratton said in a statement. “For our first year back, QuakeCon 2023 is focusing on the fan-favorite BYOC and the players that made QuakeCon the best gaming gathering for more than 25 years.”

The BYOC event is being upgraded with four days of round-the-clock gaming, community events, meetups with friends, and the annual esports finale of the Quake World Championships. Those who can’t make it to QuakeCon can watch the BYOC activity on Twitch.

QuakeCon has been a fully online event for the last three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organizers of last year’s event said they were disappointed to keep it online only due to the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, but they promised to revert the convention back to an in-person event in full force.

This year’s QuakeCon will bring a host of changes. It will be a ticketed-only event, with admittance limited to pre-registered BYOC guests, which means there will be no General Admission. An exhibit hall is also off the table, since the focus is on the rebranded BYOC event.

More information about QuakeCon 2023 will be available soon.
