Remember last week, when Fortnite

players had just about had it up to here with the new B.R.U.T.E. mechs and how drastically they changed the direction of a fight? The common sentiment was that Fortnite should get rid of the mechs, but it looks like developer Epic Games is meeting the critics halfway. Epic is making it significantly less likely you’ll find a B.R.U.T.E. mech out on the map.

In a post to the Fortnite subreddit, the official Epic Games account laid out how they’re going to reduce the odds that a B.R.U.T.E. mech spawns on the map. These changes will impact both Arena and Tournament playlists.

Essentially, it’s the same process as before. During the beginning of the match, the odds of a B.R.U.T.E. spawning are highest, with a possibility for multiple mechs to spawn. The longer the match goes on, the less likely it is that another mech will spawn. We’ve laid out the exact numbers below, as taken from Epic’s post:

  • Beginning of the match

  • Storm 1

  • Storm 2

  • Storm 3

  • Storm 4

  • Storm 5

In the tighter confines of a late-game Fortnite match, these new restrictions should make it far less likely that a B.R.U.T.E. mech will be blowing away your cover and overpowering an entire squad, or at least doing so with a full health bar. Early-game periods will now be more of a tossup, considering the 100% guarantee of a mech spawning is no more.

Epic says it will continue to monitor the impact of these changes during the Champion’s Series event next week.
