Square Enix is planning to release the first gameplay demo for Marvel’s Avengers after Gamescom in Germany. But Tony Stark voice actor Nolan North says fans should expect to be as “blown away” as he was when it’s finally out.“It absolutely is one of the most stunning things… you can’t tell where in-game cinematics and gameplay [separate]… It’s so seamless,” North said during a Q&A at Manchester Comic Con. North even went on to say that, visually, it’s one of the best things he’s seen in games. And that’s saying a lot considering some of the games North has worked on.

“[Avengers] really, visually, it’s one of the most stunning things I’ve ever seen. And obviously with The Last of Us, Uncharted, they’re amazing, but [Avengers] blew me away.”

North’s co-star Troy Baker, who voices Bruce Banner in Marvel’s Avengers, was also present at the panel and echoed North’s takeaways from the Avengers demo.

Baker said that he saw the gameplay demo that’s going to be released after Gamescom and couldn’t believe it wasn’t scripted. “I told our director, I was like cool, that’s a great demo, and I asked one question and he goes, ‘No man, that’s all gameplay’… It looked like a scripted event [and I was confusing it] with gameplay.”

IGN was able to watch 25-minutes of gameplay footage at E3 and found that the intensity of the combat really depended on which character is being played. Some characters like Hulk or Thor seemed more interesting to play than others.

Graphically, we noted that the gameplay portions looked great. But there was some wonkiness during the cutscenes, which we felt lacked polish. Avengers is still in development however, so we’ll keep our eyes on the gameplay footage Square Enix plans to release publicly and see if North’s claim that it’s impossible to separate gameplay from cinematics is true.

Marvel’s Avengers was first announced in 2017, but all that was released was a quick teaser. Square Enix officially unveiled Crystal Dynamics’ Avengers game during a press conference at E3 2019. Aside from the core Avengers team, which includes Captain America, Iron Man, Black widow, Thor, and Hulk, Marvel’s Avengers teased some other famous Marvel faces like Ant-Man Hank Pym, and maybe even Ms. Marvel.

Marvel’s Avengers will be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on May 15, 2020.
