Along with two new updates available today.

Digital Extremes revealed new details about Warframe’s Empyrean cooperative expansion, updates, and a new intro cinematic today during TennoCon 2019.

Empyrean will expand Warframe by allowing players and their clan mates to take control of the Railjack battleship and initiate in deep space combat. With it, they’ll travel through the Origin System, exploring new territory and fighting hostile forces in the process. An in-ship interface will allow players to control speed and direction, shield deployment, offensive missile volleys and gunner fire, and deploy Archwings and infiltrate enemy ships. Player ships can be upgraded, take damage and be customized.

Empyrean is introducing Squad Link, a multiplayer system that connects players with the larger community, allowing them to reach out to other Tenno squads. In multi-objective space missions, players can use Squad Link to call on other active squads to help their cause, including lowering enemy ship shields, stealing valuable data and more.

Players can now infiltrate opponent’s ships using Archwings and command them in a variety of missions. The Drydock acts as the Railjack’s personal space garage, and players can customize and upgrade its equipment, cosmetics, systems and reinforcements, and more. The new Kingpin system will employ enemies that adapt and react to player actions, beginning with the Kuva Lich, Emra Rok, in a boss fight on the capital ship. Empyrean will also bring with it graphical upgrades, using a new deferred renderer.

Two New Warframe Updates, Available Now

Two new updates, Nightwave Series 2 and Wukong Prime Access, are both available now across all platforms.

Series 2: The Emissary will have players meet a strange mute child named Arlo who “emerges unharmed from the Infestation and brings with him the miraculous ability to heal the sick.” Nightwave is Warframe’s rotating seasonal system, with each series unfolding over multiple weeks, telling brand new stories. Completing daily and weekly challenges unlocks limited-time rewards, including exclusive gear, cosmetics and more.

Wukong Prime, which can be earned through playing the game or simply by purchasing, is an enhanced version of the original Wukong Warframe.

New Warframe Intro Cinematic

A new intro cinematic, which will be added to Warframe in late 2019 or early 2020, was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for 10 Cloverfield Lane and the upcoming Uncharted movie. The cinematic is intended as a re-imagining of the game’s introductory story, where in the Old War, the original Warframes rebelled against their Orokin masters. The cinematic includes three flashback sequences that are designed to introduce players to their first playable Warframes: Excalibur, Mag and Volt.

“Getting to work so collaboratively with the dev team at DE has been an awesome experience,” said Trachtenberg. “As a massive fan of the game myself, having logged in hundreds of hours of play time, it’s been so much fun crafting a story that both sets up the universe for new players in a pretty epic way, while sprinkling it with moments that, I hope, make it doubly rewarding for hardcore fans with a better understanding of the game’s lore.”

The Future of Warframe

Digital Extremes also revealed the Duviri Paradox update trailer. Duviri Paradox intends to take players on “a reality-bending journey of the surreal,” and will consist of a third open world with an ominous environment where Operators have grown up to become mature adults.

The developer also showed off a trailer for The New War, the fourth entry in Warframe’s narrative series. This teaser relays a new chapter in the saga of the Lotus and the rise of the Sentients.

Warframe: Empyrean

Warframe’s Empyrean expansion was teased at the E3 2019 PC Gaming Show with a trailer. In our 2018 Warframe review, we called the game “Great” saying “Warframe isn’t an easily approachable game, but it’s one that’s worth getting comfortable with.”
