Zacian or Zamazenta?

Today’s Pokemon Direct saw the introduction of 7 new creatures, including Pokemon Sword and Shield’s respective legendaries.

As speculated after the game’s reveal, the two legendaries are sword and shield-wielding wolves. Check them all out in the gallery below – and there’s a full list with descriptions below:

The 7 new Sword and Shield Pokemon announced:

  • Zacian – A wolf-like legendary Pokemon. Zacian attacks so gracefully that its movements can even captivate its opponents. It holds what appears to be a sword in its mouth.
  • Zamazenta – Another legendary wolf, Zamazenta’s regal and majestic movements overwhelm any opponents that dare face it. Its body is covered in what seems to be a shield.
  • Wooloo – A sheep Pokemon with fur treasured by weavers in a town in the Galar region. Wooloo live as a herd and mimic the actions of their Trainer or herd leader.
  • Gossifleur  – The ‘flowering Pokemon’ prefers lands with clean water and air, and its pollen has a healing effect.
  • Eldegoss – An evolved form of Gossifleur, able to spread reviving seeds. In a Dynamaxed form, it can plant what look like leech seeds that sprout into giant mushrooms.
  • Drednaw – The ‘bite Pokemon’ has a vicious nature, and can chomp through rock and iron. Though it has an extremely heavy rock shell, its well-developed muscles allow it to move quickly.
  • Corviknight – A metallic new bird Pokemon that acts as a flying taxi in Galar. It sounds as though it will act as a fast travel system, able to return the player to any town they’ve previously visited (it’s not clear if this is different to the previous games’ Fly mechanic).

We may technically have seen an 8th new Pokemon – or at least Pokemon form – in there. In camera shots of the game’s Grass gym, there’s an image that looks like it could be of a Rotom as a drone.

We learned a lot more about Pokemon Sword and Shield today, from its new Dynamax system that has your little friends becoming kaiju-sized, to online raid battles and  the return of roaming Pokemon. We also got a firm release date of November 15. You can check out our complete guide to pre-ordering Pokemon Sword and Shield.

There’s also a double pack featuring both Nintendo Switch games, meaning you can hog all of Galar’s Pokemon for yourself (or give one to a friend I suppose).
