Youngblood’s campaign will be shorter, but the “gameplay time is greater.”

Wolfenstein: Youngblood, according to executive producer Jerk Gustafsson, will feature level design similar to the Dishonored series and will contain more activities and side-missions than previous Wolfenstein titles.

Via GamingBolt, Gustafsson spoke to the Official PlayStation Magazine in the July 2019 issue to discuss these changes.

“I think players will see a lot of similarities to level design in the Dishonored games,” Gustafsson said. “So in that sense it can be a little bit different as an experience but it can be for the benefit of the game, especially when it comes to finding different ways of approaching a combat scenario or a mission in general.”

This will most likely be great news for those who remember such examples as Dishonored 2’s Clockwork Mansion, which actually made our list of the 13 Most Epic Game Moments of 2016.

Gustafsson also went on to explain that, while the game does put a great focus on story, the campaign is a bit shorter than previous entries and “the amount of gameplay time is greater.”

“The open-ended structure and co-op aspect has made it a little more difficult when it comes to the narrative,” He said. “We do think we have a strong story, but it’s quite different from what we have done before; it’s a little bit lighter, not only in tone but also when it comes to the amount of content, and I think that’s the big change when it comes to previous titles: the campaign is a bit shorter but the amount of gameplay time is greater.”

As the game is focused on BJ Blazkowicz’s twin daughters in an alternate universe’s 1980s Paris and allows for full co-op, these comments do align with the changes to the Wolfenstein formula.

Gustafsson further revealed that new side-missions and challenges will be added once the campaign is complete and will ensure players have many reasons to return to this new title.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on July 26, and while this is a new direction for Wolfenstein, Bethesda assures its fans that it is “absolutely making a Wolfenstein III.”
