That’s 30% higher than TI18’s first day.

The International 19, this year’s flagship Dota 2 tournament, hit nearly $6 million of prize pool funding within the first 24 hours, breaking the record set by last year’s tournament.

The prize pool, which at the time of writing sits at just over $8 million, is raised through sales of The International Battle Pass. 25% of each Battle Pass sale goes towards the prize pool.

As noted by Dota 2 insider Wykrhm Reddy on Twitter, the first 24 hours of the Battle Pass being on sale dwarfed TI18’s prize pool by $1.7million. Currently, this year’s International is 30% ahead of last year’s at the same stage.

The International 19 is the final section of the annual Dota Pro Circuit, now in its ninth year. This year will see the finale held in China for the first time, with the games being played in Shanghai.

The Battle Pass provides a range of bonuses for Dota 2 fans looking to get involved with TI19, and comes in three different variants: standard, level 50, and level 100. Levelling up a Battle Pass provides in-game rewards, such as the new Living Towers which turn the game’s static defense towers into animated, rock-throwing golems. There’s also the classic features of the Compendium, in-game tipping, wagering, and trivia.

Not played Dota 2 before? The International is the perfect time to get involved, with newbie streams offering entry-level-friendly commentary on the games being played by the sport’s top players. But what is harder, Dota 2 or League of Legends? We got a LoL pro to try Dota 2 to find out.
